The King In Me - A Poem by Moe

oh love I feel I've let you down
with loose ends left to dream
but here I hold this lonely crown
with ends not as they seem

for kingdom born to me comes first
with no heart to contend
unsatisfied as yet my thirst
until my kingdom mend

at heart you saw my crown was just
you loved the king I'd be
if I should fail my kingdoms trust
what truth is left of me

my love in truth you've held my gaze
my mind is shared by you
this heart is heavy torn most days
to do all I must do

but distance never weakens love
when it is born in depth
its memory is a mourning dove
with need of lovers breath

and so I breathe this sainted verse
that you alone may see
as lightly now this dove I nurse
reveals the king in me
